It doesn’t take long for festival season to get started in the Texas Hill Country. The first weekend in February features the Kerrville Renaissance Fest. So we begin our February Hill Country adventures in the small towns West of Fredericksburg. Before we go big time and head to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, we snagged one of the last hotel rooms in Bandera to go check out Cowboy Mardi Gras. February also brings us Valentines day, and rumor has it there is a Hug-n-down in Luckebach.
Cowboy Mardi Gras Feb 12-15 Bandera Texas
The Cowboy Capital of the World, Bandera Texas, throws its biggest part of the year. The fest kicks off on Wednesday Feb 12 with steak night. Thursday through Saturday night it’s party on! The Parade is Saturday at high noon.
Located in the Cowboy capital of the world, the local bar puts on their flare of “The Gras” for the 15 year in a row in 2020. There is a parade Saturday at noon down Main Street, and music acts at the local bar. A gumbo cook of and chicken shit bingo are all on the event list. I’m familiar with the gumbo and bingo, but not sure about this chicken tossing thing. This event is popular at the hotel rooms in Bandera usual sell out. We had one revered this year, but had to cancel the trip, #boo.
Kerrville Renaissance Fest – Feb 1-2
One of the bigger events in the Texas Hill Country in February. It’s one of many Renaissance fests in the area during the year.

Hill Country Jazz Fest – Feb 8
